Description: This polygon dataset was created using definitions from Compliance Services. In the North Island, the boundaries are based on regional council boundaries. Features from the LINZ REGC2016_GV_Clippedlayer (Regional Council dataset) were merged to create the North Island regions. In the South Island, the boundary for the two regions is based on The Katangarua River in the West Coast and the Rangitata River on the East Coast.The South Island regions were created merging features from the LINZ REGC2016_GV_Clippedlayer then splitting the South Island by tracing the NIWA River Catchments layer and the LINZ TA_GV_Clipped layer (Territorial Authorities dataset).The regions were previously based on Iwi boundaries. This dataset is intended for general reference only and is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate.
