Description: Maritime Boundaries and Exclusive Economic Zones from the VLIZ Maritime Boundaries Geodatabase. Boundaries have been built using information about treaties between coastal countries. When treaties are not available, median lines have been calculated. An exclusive economic zone (EEZ) is a seazone extending from a state's coast or baseline over which the state has special rights over the exploration and use of marine resources. Generally a state's EEZ extends 200 nautical miles out from its coast, except where resulting points would be closer to another country. This dataset also contains delimitation of overlapping claims and joint regimes. In the Maritime Boundaries Geodatabase, Marine Regions makes available most of the maritime areas defined in the Law of the Sea Convention: Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), Territorial Seas (TS), Contiguous Zones (CZ), Internal Waters (IW) and Archipelagic Waters (AW).Geospatial management in order to preserve the current schema have mapped logical fields from V8 to V10, some were not mapped and not populated these include Date_Change, Plan_Area, Sph_Area, ShapeST_Area and ShapeST_length. Some fields were populated using a join with V8 these innclude Remarks, SovId, EEZId, ISO_3digit. The AreaMetersSquared was calculated by multiplying by 1000 as the area in V10 was not meters squared.
